The STEM Lab at Sycamore Lane Middle School hosted an open house on Tuesday, November
18. Students invited their teachers and parents/guardians to Mrs. Gates’ STEM class to present their projects.
The STEM program is one of three career and technical education classes offered in middle school. Students utilize problem solving skills with hands-on projects learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Attendees were encouraged to circulate through the class to see the program in action. Visitors observed a variety of activities including students producing a working circuit, programming a robotic arm, extracting DNA, using an injection molder to form plastic and operating a solar cooker to heat hot dogs! Students explained their current module activities and demonstrated the different steps to their projects. They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share their work and show how they can apply skills the skills they have learned.
