In honor of National Career Development Month, on November 13, 2015, the CTE Teachers and selected students held an exciting day to “show off” what they do in CTE courses. This was a great day for SCS 8th and 9th grade students to learn more about the course offerings available through CTE programs aligned to the National Career Clusters. Teachers and students demonstrated activities to over 700 participants as well as provided vital information regarding the selected curricula, industry-recognized credentials, college credits, and potential career opportunities in efforts to help students better align their course of study with their college and career goals. Post-secondary institutions, school counselors, and Gear-Up staff were also on hand to help make the connection between high school CTE programs to college to careers. The CTE Best in Showcase was (1st Place) Hospitality & Tourism – The Bagpiper; (2nd Place) Agriculture; and (3rd Place) Architecture and Construction. Student Choice Award was Human Services. This event definitely was a great day to “shine” proving that “CTE is Learning that Works for Scotland County”.
