On April 20th, Sycamore Lane’s 4th Grade students involved in the Enrichment Club directed by Ms. Jess Mager, ELA and Social Studies teacher, had the opportunity to participate in a culinary activity led by SHS CTE Teacher Chef Dibble. Although the students are still in elementary school, it is never too soon to begin thinking about college and careers. Chef’s presentation included the history of a chef and why he chose that particular career. Additionally, information was shared on the opportunities available at high school and beyond for students who choose a career path in the culinary field. Students participated in the Black Box Challenge where they chose a box with mystery ingredients, were presented with a scenario, and created a recipe with the provided ingredients. This was a great way to integrate academics with CTE and a great collaborative effort that extended to elementary students to illustrate the importance of starting early thinking about college and careers through hands-on activities.
