Scotland County Schools 8th Graders are gearing up for Students @ Work Week. During the weeks of February 24 – March 7, 8th grade students will pack their lunches and put on their work clothes for a day at the office, fire station, hospital or one of the many other local businesses and organizations participating in the Students @ Work project.
Students @ Work is a statewide project of NC Department of Public Instruction in partnership with the NC Business Committee for Education. The goal is for NC businesses to offer job shadowing opportunities to middle school students. This experience allows students to preview the world of work before they must compete in the job market, providing the foresight students need to make the most of their high school and college education. The Students @ Work project focuses on 8th graders since middle school is a crucial time for dropout prevention and also when high school curriculum planning takes place. Direct experience with the workplace demonstrates the relevance of education to future success.
